Founded in 1998, A Fazel Architect Inc. is a Toronto-based architecture and interior design firm with design experience in North America, Asia, and the Middle East.
Though we are proudly celebrating 20 years of practice in Toronto, we have been passionately engaged with architecture since 1975. Before setting up shop in Toronto, our Principal Architect founded and led one of Iran’s leading architectural consulting firms (http://www.atec-ir.com/html~founder), designing buildings across the country and developing expertise working with Iran’s unique and varying natural elements – whether Tehran and the mountainous regions surrounding the capital, or the historically and culturally significant city of Shiraz and sites along the Gulf.
We have an interiors group to meet our client’s interior design needs. Our interior designers are registered members of ARIDO, and have experience in designing a diverse range of office/commercial spaces, large-scale health facilities, information management centres historical sites/museums, and residential spaces. Our interior designers, much like our architects, have been passionately engaged with designing interior spaces since 1978.
Design drives our lives and shapes who we are. Architecture is what we love to do, and we strive to design buildings that are thoroughly enjoyed by those who use the spaces. We have designed homes and cottages we fondly lived in ourselves. We have extensive experience designing industrial and commercial spaces across Ontario, meeting highly specialized and specific needs such as a state-of-the-art facility for Molson Brewery, a distribution centre for Gap/Old Navy Canada, automotive sales and services facilities, and recycling and manufacturing facilities. One of our current projects involves an industrial freezer for a favourite winery of ours in Ontario’s beautiful Niagara Region. A project we recently wrapped up saw the expansion of the headquarters of Mars Canada. While we have a breadth of experience meeting the unique demands of industrial design, we have also designed residential spaces and educational facilities including a private elementary school and graduate student residences here in Toronto. We build and renovate restaurants, conference centres, and resorts. In some of our recent projects, we have been working closely with restaurant owners to help them grow and expand, creating exactly the kind of environment each restaurant owner craves, whether it is a bistro, a chocolatier, or family-owned pizza restaurant.
In developing our designs, we draw inspiration from the urban and natural landscape, and the historical and cultural context of a site to create unique yet responsive and well integrated spaces that become a positive addition to the existing landscape. We design with an understanding and appreciation of the site’s history, while providing solutions for the present and the future. As Frank Gehry said, “Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.” From modern to more traditional design elements, we are dedicated to architecture that meets our client’s vision and inspires both our client and the users of the building.
