Client: The Gap Canada Inc.
Value: $18 million
The Gap Canada Brampton Distribution Centre, saw the conversion of a 750,000 square foot existing Carleton Cards warehouse facility, located on McLaughlin Road in Brampton, to a state- of-the-art distribution facility for the launch of the Old Navy brand in Canada. This facility services the various brands of Gap Canada Inc.’s retail stores across the country, including the Gap itself, and the Old Navy and Banana Republic brands. Updating this facility, located on a 55 acre property just north of Toronto, required heavy modifications and an additional 25,000 square feet of new office space.
A Fazel Architect’s role on this $18 million project was to fulfill the architectural design, which included: planning the demolition and reworking of the existing building; reworking the landscaping and the entrances to better suit the new distribution facility; and extensive modifications to building’s structure, as well as to the mechanical and electrical systems.
We also designed a new warehouse mezzanine and offices. A major component of this project was the new material handling systems, including a miles-long automated conveyor, slit- and full-case picking, tilt-tray sorting, and shipping. This project was completed in 1999 for the launch of the Old Navy Brand in Canada.
